How to Prepare Health Data for Doctor Visits
Walk into your next appointment with organized data instead of guesses.
Published March 30, 2026
Why data changes the appointment
Most people describe symptoms from memory. Memory is unreliable, especially about frequency and timing. A structured log with dates, severity, and context transforms the conversation. Your provider can see real patterns instead of relying on your recall.
What to track by appointment type
Match your tracking to your appointment:
- Cardiology: Blood Pressure, Heart Rhythm, Exercise, Weight
- Neurology: Headache, Sleep, Epilepsy
- Gastroenterology: IBS, Nutrition, Bloating
- Psychiatry: Mental Health, Mood, Sleep
- VA disability: The tracker matching your claimed condition plus Sleep and Mood for functional impact
- General checkup: Blood Pressure, Weight, Sleep, any active symptoms
How to prepare the night before
Open Notebook and use the By Day view to step through recent days. Note anything you want to highlight. Export the relevant trackers as CSV. Review the charts for visible trends. Bring the export on your phone or print it.
At the appointment
Show your provider the CSV or charts. Highlight any trends you noticed. Let the data speak. A 30-day log of blood pressure readings or headache episodes is more persuasive than any verbal description.
