Why tracking works

Most people try to remember their symptoms. Memory is unreliable. Patterns that seem obvious in hindsight are invisible without data. Consistent logging over 60 to 90 days reveals connections between your lifestyle, environment, and symptoms that you simply cannot see otherwise.

Log these things every time

Date and time - Required for pattern analysis
Severity - Use a consistent 0–10 scale so comparisons are meaningful
Type or character - What kind of symptom, not just how bad
Location - Where in the body if relevant
Context - What were you doing, eating, or feeling before it started
Treatment - What you took or did, and whether it helped

How often to log

Log every episode as it happens. For conditions that occur multiple times daily (like IBS or urinary issues) log each event individually. For daily conditions like blood pressure or mood, log at consistent times each day.

The goal is consistency, not perfection. A 70% complete log over 90 days is far more valuable than a perfect log over 2 weeks.

When patterns emerge

Week 1–2
Establishing your baseline
Week 3–4
First patterns begin to appear
Month 2
Triggers become clearer
Month 3
Full picture with actionable insights

Most people are surprised by what the data reveals. Common discoveries: migraines that correlate with sleep quality, IBS flares that follow specific foods, blood pressure spikes linked to work stress.

What to do with your data

Once you have 30 or more entries:

  • Look for day-of-week patterns
  • Look for time-of-day patterns
  • Compare severity against sleep quality, food, and stress notes
  • Export your complete history as CSV to share with your care team

Common questions

How long does it take to see patterns in symptom data?
Most people see early patterns after 4 to 6 weeks. For reliable trigger identification, 90 days is the standard recommended by most healthcare providers.
What if I miss a day of logging?
Do not worry about perfection. Log when you can. Gaps are visible in the data and do not invalidate your other entries.
Do I need to log every detail?
No. Quick Log mode captures the essentials in under 30 seconds. Add detail when you have time.
