How Do You Track Water Intake?

Tracking hydration means recording how much water you drink throughout the day:

  • Amount (ounces or milliliters per entry)
  • Time of day (morning, afternoon, evening)
  • Daily total compared to your goal

BodySitRep's Water tracker shows your daily total and lets you set a customizable daily goal (default 64 oz).

Why tracking hydration matters

Most people drink less water than they think. Mild dehydration causes headaches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and can worsen blood pressure. Tracking makes your actual intake visible so you can adjust before symptoms appear.

Step-by-step

  1. Set your daily water goal in Settings (default is 64 oz).
  2. When you drink water, open the Water tracker.
  3. Enter the amount in ounces.
  4. Tap Save. Your daily total updates.
  5. Log multiple times throughout the day.

Tips

  • Log every glass or bottle. Small entries add up.
  • Increase your goal on exercise days or in hot weather.
  • Track headaches alongside water. Dehydration headaches are one of the easiest patterns to catch.
  • Use the Daily Checklist to remind yourself to log water.

Frequently asked questions

How much water should I drink daily?
A common guideline is 64 ounces (8 cups) per day. Your actual need depends on your body size, activity level, climate, and health conditions. BodySitRep lets you set a custom daily goal in Settings.
Does coffee count toward water intake?
Partially. Caffeinated beverages do contribute to hydration, but caffeine is also a mild diuretic. Track coffee with the Caffeine tracker and water separately for the clearest picture.
Why does hydration matter for headaches?
Dehydration is one of the most common headache triggers. Even mild dehydration can cause or worsen headaches. Tracking water intake alongside headache logs helps you see whether hydration is a factor.
